Saft’s products and solutions are essentially nickel-based batteries, primary lithium and new-generation lithium-based batteries and battery systems. They serve in a wide range of back-up or mission-critical applications in civil and military markets around the world.

Why Saft?

Saft designs, develops and manufactures high-technology batteries for industry and specialised applications - making them an ideal choice for PMBL's custom battery packs.

PMBL are approved by SAFT for battery pack assembly.

Type Lithium Primary Cells - Li-MnO2

The Saft LM/M cylindrical primary lithium cells are based on lithium-manganese dioxide (Li-MnO2) chemistry. They feature high surface area spiral electrodes for maximum current pulse capability and an electrolyte formula for excellent performance in the cold. They are designed specifically for applications featuring continuous currents in the 0.1-5 A range, with superimposed pulses as high as 5 A. They deliver minimal voltage delay, even after long-term storage in uncontrolled temperature environments.

Features And Benefits

  • High voltage, stable throughout the application lifetime
  • Excellent resistance to passivation, even after long-term storage in uncontrolled temperature environments
  • Safe and reliable high-power performance in potentially explosive atmospheres ATEX (C- and D-size EX cells)
  • Wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +70°C)
  • Low self-discharge compatible with long shelf life and long operating life
  • High capacities at high currrents
  • Released capacity independent of the cells orientation
  • Excellent safety record

Technical Specification

  • Non-corrosive electrolyte
  • Compliance with the European directive RoHS

MP Type Lithium Ion Rechargeable Cells

Saft batteries prismatic MP and cylindrical small VL rechargeable cells are based on lithium-ion chemistry. In addition to high nominal capacities and long cycle-life, their most innovative feature is the ability to be charged and discharged over a wide temperature range, especially at low temperatures.

Features & Benefits

The MP and VL lithium-ion batteries feature various redundant safety features – electronic protection circuit, built-in circuit breaker in case of a charger fault, safety valve, shut down separator – which make them ideal for demanding applications.

  • Wide temperature range (unrivalled low temperature performance, specific cells up to + 125°C)
  • Rugged construction to meet the harsh environments of industrial and defence applications
  • High current capability
  • Extended autonomy
  • Long cycle-life (600 to 1000+ cycles), depending on conditions
  • Easy state of charge detection based on open circuit voltage readings or energy
  • Light weight
  • Easy integration into compact systems
  • Excellent safety record

Technical Specification

  • Nominal voltage: 3.6 V – 3.75 V

  • operating temperature up to + 125°C
  • Some MP cells compliant with IEC60079-11 Intrinsic Safety for ATEX applications
  • Compliant with the European directive RoHS

LS & LSH Type Lithium Primary Cells

Saft offers a wide range of LS and LSH cylindrical primary lithium cells, all based on the Lithium-Thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) chemistry. This range perfectly suits high energy and high voltage requirements in a wide range of temperature.

Features & Benefits

The LS range has a “bobbin” construction. The concentric electrodes enable the maximum loading of active materials and correspondingly, maximum energy and lowest self discharge.

This range is designed specifically for long-term (5 to more than 20 years) applications, featuring a few µA base currents and periodic pulses, typically in the 5-150 mA range.

The LSH range has a spiral construction. The range includes specific models that can operate at the very elevated temperature ranges found for instance in Oil & Gas applications.

The cells are designed for applications requiring continuous currents in the 0.1-1.8 A range, with superimposed pulses as high as 4 A.

  • High operating voltage, stable during most of the application lifetime
  • Lowest self-discharge for extended shelf life and operating life
  • Well controlled passivation with limited voltage delay
  • Some of the highest nominal capacities on the market today
  • Excellent reliability over extended operating life
  • Excellent resistance to humid environments
  • Low magnetic signature
  • Excellent safety records
  • Up to 25 years of mass production experience

Technical Specification

  • Nominal voltage: 3.6 V
  • Bobbin construction for the LS range
  • Spiral construction for the LSH range
  • Cylindrical format: from 1/2AA to D
  • Capacity range: 1.2 Ah to 17.0 Ah
  • Max pulse discharge rate up to 4 A
  • Operating temperature: – 40°C to + 150°C
  • Non-flammable electrolyte
  • Compliant with the European directive RoHS
